There have been too many controversies surrounding the much anticipated presidential debate due to several activities unfolding, some of which include

The news about the incumbent president Mohamadu Buhari been afraid to come to the limelight and display his competency and capability amongst other contenders vying for the president seat in the forthcoming election. It was reported that in nearly four years of his presidency, Buhari has totally distanced himself from Nigerians given his aloofness and spectating position on important and controversial national issues when he should have used the medium to address the Nigerian people.

More so, as published on the Vanguard website that Buhari is planning to run away from Saturday’s presidential debate, according to Cupp. ABUJA- AHEAD Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, Thursday, said that it received information to the effect that President Muhammadu Buhari would not take part in Saturday’s presidential debate.

The coalition of opposition political parties in the country was adamant that it obtained credible intelligence on actions by what it called “the Presidency cabal and chieftains of the APC to halt Buhari from attending the Saturday Presidential Debate.”

“The CUPP has raised yet another concern over the health: physical and mental fitness of President Muhammadu Buhari who is contesting and seeking the second term in office on the platform of the ruling APC party.

” The events that unfolded in the last few days have turned out to be very clear signs that all may not be well with our President in terms of his health to see him continue in office,” the statement said.

To buttress more, the statement read further:”Nigerians can remember that following the allegations raised by the First Lady on the hijack of the Presidency by two or three people and her cry for Nigerians to rise against them, it is factual that the President is being protected from the Nigerian media and that he speaks only from prepared scripts, the CUPP had noise the mental health status of the President and called for an independent team of experts to carry out an examination all the Presidential candidates.

Another controversy surrounding the much anticipated presidential debate as reported on January 1o by Sahara Reporters as published in a story captioned “APC Coalition Joins Conspiracy To Exclude Sowore From the Presidential Debate” as written in the statement issued by Dr. Malcolm Fabiyi, who is the Director-General of the Sowore 2019 Campaign. Fabiyi mentioned that “The African Action Congress and the Sowore 2019 Campaign has been signals concerning the plot to use frivolous lawsuits as a weapon to prevent a timely ruling on the case instituted by our party for the inclusion of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the party, in the NEDG/BON debates scheduled to hold on January 19, 2019.”

·        Exclusion Of Sowore On The Presidential Debate

Sowore’s exclusion from the debate has become the major talk on the lips of many even before the presidential debate. Nigerians are disappointed, and thinking why Sowore who has proven to be a great orator and communicator on the campaign trail, a charismatic crowd puller, a tireless campaigner, and a brilliant debater who knowledgeably attempts the great issues of our time for the common Nigerian citizen was not included in the debate.

The question that raises the appetites of Nigerians is: Why. would President Buhari through his party APC be involved in the conspirators to exclude Sowore from the debate? Who is afraid of Sowore? What are is the President afraid of? Why does he want to deny Nigerians the opportunity to hear from Sowore? Why is he scared of being on the debate stage with Sowore? Nigerians are eagerly waiting to hear from Sowore why he wants to be the president of Nigeria.

Also, to add to the buildup against the soon to hold presidential debate, the presidential flag bearer of Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) in the person of Tope Fasua, has boasted and made it known that he would embarrass President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the candidate of the ruling APC party, APC as well as his PDP counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, at the forthcoming presidential debate with unmatched ideas on how to preside over a country. The 47-year old founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Analytics Consulting Limited, boldly said both Buhari and Atiku through their recent public presentation have told Nigerians of their 2019 policy documents and that they lacked ideas on solutions to Nigeria’s problems.

Fasua disclosed that he would have ample opportunity at the presidential debate to show Nigerians and the world at large that Buhari and Atiku who are considered as two leading candidates in the elections shallow with ideas. This, he explained further, would be done when he brings forth ideas on how Nigeria can be moved forward.

On his speech, he said: “I am going to embarrass them (referring to both Buhari and Atiku) with ideas because I can see that they have shallow ideas. They lack ideas. This is visible, you can see it in the new documents that they just presented.

“Atiku was emphatically talking that he would privatize several endeavors, basically telling us how he wants to come and play crass capitalism by selling the Nigerian Petroleum giant NNPC and so on. You could see that their ideas are not weighty, neither are they thinking deep. They only believe that they are entitled to be president, they are yet to actually give a very good thought to state what difference they are going to do about this country.

Lastly, the Presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has left the United States of America back to Nigeria. Atiku went to America the God’s Own country for the first time after almost 13 years.
